Altus Ends 2019 on a High with Custom Interconnect
March 6, 2020 | Altus GroupEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
With the doors now shut on 2019, Altus Group, a leading distributor of capital equipment, has reflected upon a year of exhibitions, evaluations and new customers ending in another record sales year. One of the most recent clients to work with Altus is Custom Interconnect Limited (CIL), a long-established electronics manufacturer engaged in producing some of the most technically challenging electronic assemblies in the UK.
“In the last weeks of December, CIL invested in the latest Koh Young Zenith 2, fully 3D AOIs to support their market leading production facility in Andover,” explained Joe Booth, Altus Director - Business Development and Marketing.
John Boston, Managing Director at CIL added: “These systems are the most advanced AOI in the UK and Ireland at any CEM or OEM. The system, with its eight light projectors benefits from fully 3D light metrology. This enables CIL the most accurate measurement of its PCBA’s. With the addition of side camera technology to overcome RF shielding and upgraded 15-micron resolution, CIL now has automatic inspection capability for all its existing and future products.
“Due to the precise and quantifiable measurement of the Koh Young platform and by exploiting KSMART Statistical Process Capability, our Engineering Process Improvement and Quality Teams can aggregate real time production information to not only remove the chances of an escape, but also to study our production processes in detail to improve our yields and drive our quality standards ever higher. This functionality comes alongside many new features of KSMART including Remote Line Monitoring, Offline Programming, Offline fine tuning and Foreign Object Material Inspection. These two 3D AOI systems and investment in TAKAYA Flying probe and DAGE QUADRA 5 X-Ray gives CIL an unrivalled inspection and test capability.”
Joe concluded: “We would like to offer our thanks to CIL for their investment in the latest generation of AOI systems from Koh Young and look forward to working with them as they continue to grow their business.
“We know that such major investment requires a great deal of time and resources invested by prospective customers like CIL. Altus work hard to make sure focus is placed to evaluate the systems on the market and complete the due diligence to ensure that the best system is selected to provide the optimum technical and commercial solution. We also give headroom for growth and of course ongoing support.”

Is China Plus One Still Happening in the PCB Industry?
04/28/2026 | Manfred Huschka, Manfred Huschka Management Consulting (Shenzhen) Ltd.For much of the past five years, China Plus One has been shorthand for supply-chain diversification: reducing dependency on mainland China by adding manufacturing capacity elsewhere in Asia. In the PCB industry, however, in early 2026, it is more nuanced. It looks less like a clean geographic shift and more like a layered, capital-intensive rebalancing of global capacity, one that still leaves China deeply embedded at the center.
It's Only Common Sense: See Your Marketing as a Discipline, Not a Department
04/27/2026 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common SenseWhat does marketing mean to you? Is it a corner office with cool posters on the wall? Is it the person running your LinkedIn page or the trade show booth with the shiny graphics and the bowl of candy? Yes, marketing is those things, but it’s more than that. It’s a discipline, and if you treat it like a department, you’re already losing.
Roundtable: Advanced Materials
