Indium Corporation Expert to Present at SMTA Heartland Expo
June 24, 2021 | Indium CorporationEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Indium Corporation’s Meagan Sloan, CSMTPE, technical support engineer, will present on high-reliability alloys at the SMTA Heartland Expo & Tech Forum at 9 a.m. Central on Thursday, July 15, in Overland Park, Kan.
What constitutes “high-reliability”? Is it the result of the alloy, the flux, and the conformal coating? Are there other factors at play? Most of the electronics industry is focused on improving the overall reliability of its assemblies. An increase in resources has been put into R&D for innovations toward improving solder alloy strength, integrity, and thermal stability. The demand for specialized Pb-free alloy development is driven by unique market segment requirements such as those found in the automotive, consumer electronics, LED, and aerospace industries. In High-Reliability Alloys, Sloan will examine elemental additives for Pb-free alloys and their effect on the reliability of the solder joints.
Sloan provides technical support, including guidance and recommendations, to customers related to process steps, equipment, techniques, and materials. In addition, she delivers technical training to staff and industry partners. Sloan joined Indium Corporation in 2018 after receiving her master’s degree in chemical engineering from Syracuse University. She received her undergraduate degree in a dual program between Le Moyne College and Syracuse University. While there, she earned the American Institute of Chemists Student Medal Award, the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Analytical Chemistry Undergraduate Award, and the ACS Division of Organic Chemistry Undergraduate Award. She is a member of the ACS and the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA), and holds a leadership position in the SMTA Empire Chapter as vice president of Young Professionals. Sloan is a Certified SMT Process Engineer through the SMTA.
