The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Technica USA Celebrates 35 Years of Service to the Printed Circuit Industry
July 28, 2021 | Technica USAEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
July 28, 2021 marks 35 years of Technica providing materials and equipment to printed circuit board manufacturers in North America.
Founded in 1986 by Robert Morgensen, with Frank Medina joining as a partner a few years later, Technica soon became a major supplier to the industry.
Medina said, “It is amazing to think that it has been 35 years already, time has flown by quickly. It is important to note that we wouldn’t have been in business this long if not for the people. We have been blessed to have many hard working and extremely talented men and women as part of our team over the years. We have also been fortunate to have the opportunity to represent some of the top product lines in our market. It is also pleasing to point out that as we celebrate this major milestone, we can also reflect on the many long relationships we have created including a 30-year relationship with many of the people at Wise s.r.l., producers of the finest wet process and surface preparation equipment available in the PCB Fab market. We are also very pleased to have established a partnership with EMC (Elite Materials Co., Ltd.) over the most recent years. Technica has had a long history of supplying laminate materials to the PCB market and sees a very bright future for EMC materials in North America.”
As the PCB fabrication market started to change after the new millennium, Technica began a quest to diversify into other markets. It wasn’t until around 2008, with the help and support of some special associates and board members, that the company made a strong commitment to expand into some specific markets.
Medina continued, “Around 2013 things started to really fall in place for us in the SMT market. Establishing a partnership with ASM Assembly Systems was a key decision for Technica. Having a supply partner willing to support our vision to establish a Demo and Training Center at our corporate headquarters in San Jose was the beginning of what has been a mutually successful relationship ever since. News of our Demo & Training Center helped attract other companies to join our team. We can modestly say that we now represent some of the best and most recognizable products in the SMT market.”
After 35 years, Medina and Technica’s new shareholders are focused on expanding their market share in the PCB fabrication, SMT and other markets by continuing to add value and build stronger partnerships with customers and suppliers.
Medina went on to say, “At the end of the day, our longevity is a tribute to the loyalty and support we have received from our customers and we thank the many that have stood by us over this long period. It has been extremely rewarding for me and the whole team. Thank you!”
