KYZEN, the global leader in innovative environmentally friendly cleaning chemistries, announces that Debbie Carboni, Global Product Line Manager, Electronics, has been chosen to receive the Excellence in Leadership Award from the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA).
“I am both honored and humbled to receive this award,” Carboni said. “When I first joined the SMTA more than two decades ago, I was the youngest person in the room and thought SMTA was a group of people gathering to fill a 60-minute rubber chicken dinner meeting. Little did I know that my experience with this organization would help me achieve many of my personal and professional goals, and it evolved into a community filled with ball games, golf outings, fishing trips, panel discussions, public speaking tutorials, white papers, certifications and colleagues who are more like family than co-workers. This community is filled with people who truly want to help others succeed.”
This award honors SMTA members who stand out as strong leaders in the Association, showing exceptional dedication to the SMTA, serving as a leader at the national, international, and/or chapter level. The individual’s involvement has enhanced the association, expanded programs, or made a significant impact to achieve the SMTA mission. Debbie was selected as the 2021 recipient of this award due to her dedication to the success of the SMTA for more than 20 years. She has demonstrated her leadership as VP Expos on the Board of Directors, a speaker, a member of several committees and more. Most recently she has been instrumental in reviving the Philadelphia Chapter and mentoring the officer team.
“With my 20+ years with the SMTA, I have met great leaders and friends. I have learned more about printing, design and reflow than I ever thought I would want to know. I have had the honor of sharing some of my knowledge of PCB cleaning with others around the globe at various SMTA events. I enjoy seeing each year’s young professionals who are eager to both learn and share their knowledge with our community and look forward to seeing one of them be selected in the future. This is the heart of the SMTA, and it makes leadership easy,” Carboni commented.
She added that she first joined the Association for networking and to learn about other processes, but over the years she came to enjoy it and has made many friends that feel like family. She added that the SMTA is a part of who she is today. One of her crowning achievements was when then-President Jeff Kennedy asked if she would run for the Board. While she had never considered an elected position, she went for it with the goal of making a difference. She realized that she could give back to those who had given her so much. She applied her passion and sense of fun to her numerous roles within the Association and has helped strengthen and broaden the Association’s goals over the years.
Tanya Martin, CMP, Executive Director of SMTA, said, “Debbie brings fun and passion to the chapter and SMTA. The SMTA thanks Debbie for her many valuable years of service.”
“Much gratitude to the SMTA community for selecting me as this year’s recipient,” Carboni concluded. “I am truly appreciative and will treasure this for many years.”
SMTA has recognized exceptional individual and corporate members for their immeasurable contributions to the association since 1994. Debbie is dedicated to preserving the traditions of the association and maintaining high standards of professionalism in the industry. She will be recognized during SMTA International this November 1-4, 2021 in Minneapolis, MN.
