SMTA International Day 1: Standing Room Only
November 4, 2021 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007Estimated reading time: 1 minute

The show floor at this year’s SMTAI is not as busy—or as expansive—as in past years, but most people in attendance seem pleased. Trade shows in general this year are drawing 30–50% of their previous attendance numbers; sources at SMTA report that early numbers are at or above the top end of that window and continuing to increase with a higher-than-average number of at-the-door registrations.
The Wednesday morning keynote by Loren McDonald of EVAdoption, titled “Are You Ready for the EV Revolution?” echoed what is becoming a familiar scene. It was standing room only and McDonald’s presentation on marketing electric vehicles got strong reviews from attendees.
Elsewhere, Dr. Ron Lasky, a senior technologist at Indium and an I-Connect007 columnist, received the SMTA Member of Technical Distinction Award. I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Lasky on a different topic yesterday and will share that with our readers in the next few days.
There was much more news, of course. While the announcement that DuPont is acquiring Rogers wasn’t SMTA specific news, the news was echoing through the halls.
We’ll continue coverage of the show SMTAI show floor tomorrow as we conduct interviews, snap photos, and bump elbows with friends. Stay tuned!
