ESCATEC Invests in New ‘Innovation Hub’ to Support Growing Customer Demand
October 13, 2022 | ESCATECEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
A rapidly expanding customer base with numerous hi-tech projects has prompted integrated Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider, ESCATEC, to establish a dedicated “Innovation Hub” in Heerbrugg, Switzerland. The facility will enable the Group to boost its Design and Development (D&D) services, which it offers as a value-added option leading to mass manufacturing or as a stand-alone service, to further support customer innovation globally across a wide range of market segments.
The new workspace will house a team of 22 D&D professionals and is located 200 meters from the existing Swiss site, which continues to function as a production facility for advanced electronics and Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MOEMS) assembly.
This new initiative will provide ESCATEC’s D&D team with a creative workspace to meet customers and support them in turning their conceptual thoughts and early design ideas into market leading products. The newly created innovation hub will continue to strengthen the Group’s growing reputation with OEM brands seeking a reliable and highly capable EMS partner with in-house design capabilities.
ESCATEC’s D&D Manager, Asmin Perviz, who will head the new facility, said, “A major benefit to customers when partnering with ESCATEC is that we offer a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution. Not only do we have decades of experience and technical expertise across a very wide product portfolio, but we are also able to quickly understand our customers design challenges and can move seamlessly from D&D to NPI (New Product Introduction) to mass production within the same business. Not many electronics design service providers offer that.”
The rapid pace of technological advancement, emergence of new industries, and new product applications, require a near constant upskilling of D&D capabilities and services, noted Asmin. Having the new “open plan creative concept” innovation hub will help ESCATEC recruit exciting new talent to the team, he added, especially in high-power electronics, IoT, battery management systems, and user experience (UX) design.
Established in 1974 with its headquarters in Penang, Malaysia, ESCATEC offers a fully integrated portfolio of electronics, electro-mechanical, and box build manufacturing services, with a network of modern production facilities in Malaysia, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
ESCATEC has been in rapid expansion mode over the past several years with the Group making major investments to acquire the latest technologies and capabilities, as well as significantly expanding its international production and design footprint via acquisition and partnerships. The Group had a very successful year in 2021 and is anticipating a repeat performance again this year, with its sights firmly on USD$450 million in revenue.

Better Sustainability Policies for Electronics
10/29/2025 | Diana Radovan, Global Electronics AssociationI joined the Global Electronics Association in August 2025 as the director of sustainability policy. Since then, much has happened in terms of geopolitics and in the development and re-envisioning of sustainability policies in the industry. While the European Commission has released several legislative packages to simplify sustainability requirements (“omnibus”), these developments haven’t yet settled and are not in effect. Given the many recent and ongoing public consultations, with often conflicting input from a broad range of stakeholders, final negotiations remain rather polarized among policymakers.
Sealed for Survival: Potting Electronics for the Toughest Environments
10/29/2025 | Beth Massey, MacDermid Alpha Electronics SolutionsElectronics deployed in harsh conditions face relentless threats from vibration, impact, chemical contaminants, airborne pollutants, and moisture, conditions that can quickly lead to failure without robust protection. Potting, the process of encapsulating electronics in a protective polymer, is a widely used strategy to safeguard devices from both environmental and mechanical hazards.
