The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

Fein-Lines: Packing My Bags for CES 2023
I look forward every year to CES, and it starts tomorrow with a host of media-related events. This massive consumer technology show in Las Vegas has launched some of today’s most exciting technological breakthroughs and I expect the 2023 show to be just as fruitful.
The first media event, titled “Launch It,” is powered by ShowStoppers @ CES, and is a leading media showcase on Jan. 3. Many of today’s successful technology companies introduced their initial products at this event.

Launch It @ CES is separate from the main ShowStoppers event and takes place prior to the official CES Media Day. It focuses on the launch of new technologies and products to a pre-qualified and seemingly select audience of technology and financial press—as well as angel and venture capitalists, and private equity firms.
I’m still waiting to find out who or what will be presenting at Launch It, but as one who has been invited to attend, I know it’s a chance to see innovation firsthand. Those who attend will vote on a winner, which then wins a cash prize and the opportunity to exhibit at ShowStoppers two days later.
ShowStoppers @ CES provides early media access to a fascinating combination of future technologies, hands-on products, engaging experiences, and top entertainment. As someone who has covered this event for many years, I find the four hours spent there to be some of the most valuable and informative at CES.
Tuesday evening features CES Unveiled, “the official media event of CES,” which is open only to registered media. Before the show floor opens, we get a sneak peek of the groundbreaking new products and technologies that will be shown at CES 2023.
CES really knows how to cater to the media, as Wednesday, Jan. 4 is Media Day, and will include a day of focused events from companies such as LG Electronics, Bosch, Panasonic, Canon, Samsung, Sony, AMD, BMW, and several others.
CES 2023 officially opens on Thursday, Jan. 5 and continues through Jan. 8. In addition to the thousands of exhibits, we’ll get a keynote address from Oliver Zipse, BMW chairman of the board of management; CES 2023 Tech Trends to Watch; the Electric Boat Show; ASKA Flying Car demo; and what very well may be the world’s largest auto show focusing on new automotive technology.
However, I may be most excited about the awe-inspiring Eureka Park. For more than a decade, startups have convened at this event “in pursuit of their big break in the tech industry. In the electric atmosphere of the world’s largest startup event, exhibitors pitch potential partners, investors, and ‘Shark Tank’ casting directors alike.”1
Lest you think I’ll be so engrossed in what I see that I can’t focus on anything else, I’m equally enthused about sharing information about what I see, so watch for my reports from the show. Stay tuned for something great.
