Foxconn Founder Terry Gou Steps Down as Director
September 7, 2023 | FoxconnEstimated reading time: 1 minute

Terry Gou, Founder of Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), resigned as a director of the company due to "personal reasons".
The company has always aimed to improve corporate governance. Among the 9 directors of the current board of directors, more than half, or 5 seats, are comprised of independent directors. Following, Mr Gou’s resignation as a director, there is no need to immediately elect a director.
Gou founded Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd – Foxconn’s formal name – 49 years ago. Under his leadership, the Group deepened R&D, innovated business models, and became the world's largest electronics manufacturing services (EMS) company. The Group is deeply grateful to the Founder for his nearly half-a-century of contribution to the Group, as well as the global electronics industry.
Gou officially handed over leadership of the Group to a professional manager four years ago. Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) has continued to grow and thrive from its original, solid foundation. Last year, revenue exceeded NT$6 trillion and the company issued a record cash dividend since it first went public in 1991. It has been a positive example of succession among large global enterprises.
In addition to deeply cultivating the existing electronics industry, Foxconn also continues to transform. After Chairman and CEO Young Liu took over four years ago, his vision of three industries (electric vehicles, digital health, robotics) plus three core technologies (artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and next-generation communications) has been the main driver for the Group as it enters the next 50 years. The Group’s ”share, collaborate, thrive” proposition leverages its global standing to assist the 24 regions it operates in to bring local economic development and high-quality employment opportunities. No matter in the past or going forward, this is paving the way for the Group’s sustainable development and is also the greatest contribution in lifting the well-being of humanity.
