Fond Memories of Lino Sousa
December 18, 2023 | I-Connect007 Editorial TeamEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Many of us have been in the PCB industry for a long time. With that, we have made great friends and met some of the most amazing and lovely people one can ever meet, especially professionally. From time to time, we must also say goodbye. Lino Sousa certainly falls into the category of amazing and special people in our industry. We learned of his passing last weekend — he will be sorely missed. Below, friends and colleagues have shared their thoughts and made tribute to our friend, Lino.
From Pluritec:
“It is with broken hearts, that we announce Lino Sousa passed away late last week. Whoever had the luck to meet Lino knows the unique person he was. A hard worker, trusted business partner, great father and grandfather; his contagious optimism and joy of life was inspiring to many. You will be greatly missed my friend. RIP.”
— Nicola Doria and the Pluritec team.
From IEC
“Lino, proud husband, father, grandfather, Christian, a consummate Sales professional, as well as being a true and tremendous friend will be missed by all of us whose lives he touched at IEC. We are so privileged that we were able to get to know him and be a part of his life. We will think of him often with great memories and with great affection.”
From I-Connect007
“Lino was one of the first people I met in the industry, way back in 1990. His warmth, friendliness and mile-a-minute banter endeared him to me from the start. He was a salesman to his core—in the best way—but also generous, compassionate, whip smart and kind. I think of his family, church community, and our industry. What a huge hole he has left, but what a legacy.”
— Barb Hockaday
“A unique character in our industry. I’ve never known anyone as passionate and enthusiastic about what he was selling. I would end up just as excited as Lino just by listening to him for a few minutes! And I was just an interviewer, never a sales prospect! So sorry to lose you, Lino.”
— Pete Starkey
Just a month ago, at the 2023 productronica exhibition held in Munich, Pete interviewed Lino. Watch this interview below:

Global Sourcing Spotlight: Golf, Friedman, and the Benefits of Global Sourcing
05/08/2024 | Bob Duke -- Column: Global Sourcing SpotlightWhen I started working on global sourcing for American Standard Circuits, a friend sent me a book by the NY Times economist Thomas Friedman called The Lexis and the Olive Tree. Well, not being a fan of the NYT or even economists as a whole, I put the book on a shelf and forgot about it until I got a call from my book-giving friend, and he asked me what I thought of the book. I mumbled something unintelligible and quickly changed the subject.

Nolan’s Notes: Coming to Terms With AI
05/07/2024 | Nolan Johnson -- Column: Nolan's NotesHow fast do things move in the world of data analytics? Here’s an example. We’ve been planning this issue on artificial intelligence for the past few months, and, in fact, I had already written this column about a month ago. Then I went to IPC APEX EXPO and upended it all. I originally had compared AI to drag racing in that (CPU) horsepower and new (data) vehicles have steadily delivered higher performance competition. That seemed pretty accurate given how generative AI models dominated the popular media with amazing results—and sometimes spectacular crashes.
Happy’s Tech Talk #28: The Power Mesh Architecture for PCBs
05/07/2024 | Happy Holden -- Column: Happy’s Tech TalkA significant decrease in HDI substrate production cost can be achieved by reducing the number of substrate layers from conventional through-hole multilayers and microvia multilayers of eight, 10, 12 (and more), down to four. Besides reducing direct processing steps, yield will increase as defect producing operations are eliminated.
