Incap UK Implements Innovative Solution for Efficient Material Storage

Incap UK, recently faced a challenge related to the storage of material kits in the Fast Track department. The year-on-year growth in demand for the department’s services resulted in a continuous expansion of shop floor space dedicated to material storage, prompting the need for a strategic solution to optimise space utilisation.
The escalating demand for storage space had led to the occupation of valuable floor space. The Fast Track department found itself utilising 9.1 square metres for the actual racking and an additional 14.7 square metres for operator access, totaling 23.8 square metres. With physical expansion constraints in place, it became vital to enhance material storage efficiency and reclaim valuable space for other manufacturing activities.
To address the material storage challenge, Incap UK decided to invest in an innovative solution — a vertical storage carousel unit. The chosen model, a “Kardex Lektriver 120-15-11,” was successfully installed on the 19th of December 2023.
The implemented storage unit boasts a total footprint of 7.3 square metres, which includes the necessary space for operator access. This represents a remarkable 70% reduction in overall space requirements, resulting in significant savings of 16.5 square metres.
The adoption of the vertical storage carousel unit brings several benefits to Incap UK’s FastTrack department. The most notable advantage is the substantial reduction in shop floor space usage, allowing for a more streamlined and organised material storage system. This newfound efficiency enables the company to free up valuable space for other manufacturing activities, contributing to enhanced productivity and operational flexibility.
Additionally, the vertical storage carousel facilitates quicker and more accessible retrieval of materials, optimising workflow and minimising operational downtime. The strategic investment aligns with Incap UK’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of manufacturing excellence.
