This was a great year for the ongoing advocacy efforts for the PCB industry. Our numbers tell the story. PCBAA membership topped 65, we have more than 5,000 followers on social media, generated 450 social media posts, had more than 50 Capitol Hill meetings with members and staff, influenced PCB legislation, held our largest annual meeting to date, placed 12 opinion editorials in major publications across the country, and participated in four industry trade shows.

It’s hard to believe, but there was a time when words like “reshoring,” “industrial policy,” and “semiconductors” were not part of our national policy discussion. This month, as we mark the two-year anniversary of the CHIPS and Science Act, it’s worth reflecting on what has been accomplished and what remains to be done. In the past 24 months, America has seen a flurry of industrial activity, with billions of dollars flowing into new factories, cutting-edge research, and the promise of high-paying jobs.

September in the United States is the season for back-to-school and football. In the arena of government policy advocacy, it’s the season for election campaigning and wrapping up the work of the current session of Congress. This month, there will be a flurry of efforts in Congress by legislators to complete action on “must-do” legislation, especially spending plans for FY25, which begins Oct. 1. In October, there will be a recess for the home stretch of the campaign; in November and December, there will be one more round of policy action by the “lame duck” office holders before the new U.S. government takes office in January. Now is the time for us to try and get those ducks in a row.

Greg LaRocca Joins SIA as Director of Industry Research and Economic Policy

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced Greg LaRocca has joined the SIA team as director of industry research and economic policy. LaRocca will lead SIA’s industry statistics, data analytics, and market research work.
