IPC / iNEMI Webinar on Circularity Challenges in Electronics Manufacturing
July 11, 2024 | iNEMIEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Join iNEMI and IPC to talk about a collaborative approach to the challenges of circularity in electronics manufacturing. We held a workshop with industry experts at the Electronics Goes Green conference in Berlin last month to discuss circularity challenges in electronics manufacturing. The workshop — "There’s no end to a circle: A workshop on how to address circularity challenges in electronics manufacturing" — focused on scoping industry solutions to address pressing circularity challenges.
This upcoming webinar will review workshop results and focus on identifying priorities in four areas identified by the workshop:
- Data issues — availability or lack of data, trustworthiness, accuracy, security, standardization/collection of data
- Definition of circularity — standardizing form, fit and function; design for circularity; need clear, consistent, defined roadmap, priorities, and policies worldwide
- ROI — lack of economic incentives
- Other — rate of technology change; lack of maturity and good practice; lack of all levels of expertise; complexity of system; disconnect between net zero goals and circular materials
Registration
This webinar is for people who attended the EGG workshop as well as those who could not attend but would like to join the conversation. We will be continuing, and building on, the discussion about solutions needed to enable circular economy principles in the electronics industry. The webinar is open to industry; advance registration is required (see link below). If you have any questions or need additional information please contact Mark Schaffer (marks@inemi.org).

What Emerging Circularity Policies Mean for the Electronics Industry
11/20/2025 | I-Connect007 Editorial TeamAs Europe accelerates toward a circular economy, electronics manufacturers face a wave of new sustainability requirements that will redefine product design, materials management, and end-of-life strategies. During a Nov. 11 webinar co-hosted by the Global Electronics Association and the Anthesis Group, industry leaders outlined the regulatory landscape shaping the next decade, including the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), the Right to Repair (R2R) Directive, and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulatory framework.
EIPC Technical Snapshot: Sustainability in Electronics Manufacturing
11/06/2025 | Pete Starkey, I-Connect007EIPC selected the highly topical issue of sustainability in electronics manufacturing for the 24th Technical Snapshot webinar on Oct. 29, with guest speakers Satoshi Konagai of Elephantech and Liisa Hakola of the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The program was moderated by Kirsten Smit-Westenberg, executive director of EIPC, who also introduced each speaker.
The Global Electronics Association Launches Industry Leading Circularity Resource Hub, Fast-Tracking Cost-Reducing, Efficient Solutions for Manufacturers
07/01/2025 | Global Electronics AssociationToday, the Global Electronics Association – the voice of the electronics industry – launched its Circularity Resource Hub. The Hub provides a centralized home for the latest industry standards, best practices, and resources to accelerate electronics’ sustainable and circular evolution.
Closing the Loop: iNEMI Workshop Addresses Circularity Challenges
12/09/2024 | Kelly Scanlon, IPC Lead Sustainability StrategistThe electronics industry faces increasing pressure from consumers and regulators to implement more circular design principles in their products. While some companies lead the way, many grapple with significant knowledge gaps. These include a lack of clear definitions for "circular economy" in the context of electronics, insufficient data, and inadequate training to apply circular principles effectively across product lifecycles. Additionally, there's a pressing need to understand the return on investment (ROI) and other potential incentives for implementing circular principles.
