Welcome Day: AT&S Trains 21 New Apprentices for the High-tech Industry
September 26, 2024 | AT&SEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Nine apprentices started their training at AT&S in 2021. Since then, the Styrian company, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of IC substrates and high-end printed circuit boards, has intensified its apprenticeship training. With success: in fall 2024, 21 new apprentices start their training at the Austrian AT&S sites in Leoben Hinterberg and Fehring, meaning the number has more than doubled.
Artificial intelligence, digitalization, electrification and sustainable energy use are the megatrends of our time, and AT&S is driving precisely these future areas with its products and customers. AT&S offers an attractive working environment that challenges and encourages young people. Of the 21 new AT&S apprentices, almost half of whom are female, 13 have opted for the apprenticeship model with Matura. At AT&S, the Matura is completed during working hours. Three even start their apprenticeship after successfully completing their Matura.
In total, 65 apprentices are now completing apprenticeships at AT&S in the following professions: Electrical engineering, process engineering, mechatronics, metal technology, production metrology, laboratory technology chemistry, testing technology physics, industrial clerk and IT technology. From 2025, AT&S will even offer twelve different apprenticeships.
“For us, apprenticeship training is more than ever an important pillar in meeting the demand for qualified employees. Our technological requirements call for specific process knowledge and expertise, which our apprentices acquire through this form of training in particular,” says Eduard Lackner, HR Manager Austria at AT&S.

Too many companies hide behind their ISO certificates, ITAR registrations, and shiny badges of compliance as if those are supposed to impress customers, but certifications are table stakes. Everyone has them. If you think that’s your differentiator, you’re already in the grave; you just don’t know it.

10/08/2025 | Anaya Vardya -- Column: Standard of ExcellenceNo matter how refined the processes, how seasoned the team, or how sophisticated the technology, mistakes happen in business. A shipment goes out late. A part doesn’t meet spec. A miscommunication causes frustration. It’s the part of customer service that no one likes to talk about, but every company must master how to respond when things go wrong.
