Current IssueRules of Thumb
This month, we delve into rules of thumb—which ones work, which ones should be avoided. Rules of thumb are everywhere, but there may be hundreds of rules of thumb for PCB design. How do we separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak?
Partial HDI
Our expert contributors provide a complete, detailed view of partial HDI this month. Most experienced PCB designers can start using this approach right away, but you need to know these tips, tricks and techniques first.
Silicon to Systems: From Soup to Nuts
This month, we asked our expert contributors to weigh in on silicon to systems—what it means to PCB designers and design engineers, EDA companies, and the rest of the PCB supply chain... from soup to nuts.

Rheinmetall, Hologate Sign Strategic Cooperation
December 3, 2024 | RheinmetallEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Düsseldorf-based Rheinmetall AG, a leading company in the field of defense and security technologies, and Hologate, the world's leading provider of sophisticated Extended Reality (XR) solutions in the field of simulation and entertainment, intend to work closely together in the future to develop innovative simulation solutions.
The strategic cooperation aims to promote developments that are crucial for modern military training.
In a world where the requirements for training systems and methods for driver training are becoming increasingly complex, realistic and state-of-the-art simulation technologies are essential. By combining Rheinmetall's extensive know-how in the field of military training systems and Hologate's expertise in the development of XR simulation technologies, a new level of simulation capabilities is created.
"This partnership is an important step for Rheinmetall to further expand our portfolio of VR/XR training and simulation solutions," explained Hanno Tabeling, Head of Driving Simulation Systems Engineering at Rheinmetall. "With Hologate's state-of-the-art software, we are able to offer our customers even more realistic and flexible training options. The development of a VR driving simulator for training military drivers is the first time that this collaboration can be seen and experienced."
Hologate brings extensive expertise from projects with the German armed forces and police, in which XR technologies meet the highest training standards. The AI and trainer-controlled solutions enable a holistic and realistic training experience.
The mobile XR motion simulator HGXR SIM enables versatile applications such as helicopter, truck or boat simulation. Thanks to the open system architecture and virtual buttons, it is possible to quickly switch between different vehicle models at the touch of a button. This flexibility saves resources, increases efficiency and reduces costs.
The advanced motion tracking technology minimizes latency and simulates dynamic G-forces of up to 2g. A range of motion of one meter and inclinations of up to 30 degrees create a precise and realistic training environment. The combination of quality, flexibility and cost-effectiveness makes the simulator ideal for a wide range of training scenarios and locations.
"The partnership with Rheinmetall is a significant step forward for us," explains Leif Petersen, CEO of Hologate. "By combining our expertise in XR technologies with Rheinmetall's extensive know-how, we can develop innovative simulation solutions that set new standards."
The strategic partnership underlines the shared commitment of both companies to optimise the effectiveness of modern technologies. Tailored to the current and future challenges in the military (basic) training of military drivers and other crew members, customers worldwide can be offered innovative solutions tailored to their specific needs.
