Murata to Establish New Corporate Venture Capital Arm in the US
April 15, 2025 | MurataEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., will establish WONDERSTONE Ventures, a new corporate venture capital (CVC) arm aimed at exploring new business opportunities and sustainable growth, in April 2025 in the US. The objective of this CVC arm is to invest in startup companies, which Murata will apply to creating future innovation.
The logo that Murata has adopted for WONDERSTONE Ventures represents the “wonder stone” that Murata has cherished since its founding, as well as the starting point of its corporate venturing activities, the goal of mutually enhancing value by polishing the “raw stone” of startup companies.
Management that takes a broad view of trends in technical and social changes is necessary for Murata to continue creating value as an “Innovator in Electronics” in the electronics market, which is facing enormous changes. Although Murata has already been focused on investing in and collaborating with startup companies, the establishment of a CVC function will make its investment in startups more flexible and increase the mobility of its cooperation with and support for them. This is aimed at enhancing Murata’s competitiveness by enabling it to respond to changes in the market, which are occurring at a faster rate than ever before.
Through the CVC arm, Murata plans to invest 50 million USD over the next five years in innovative technologies and applications that may lead to groundbreaking changes in the fields of next-generation communication and 6G, optics/semiconductors1, bioelectronics, the environment, robotics, and space, which Murata has identified as areas of preparation for the long term in Medium-Term Direction 2027. WONDERSTONE Ventures will be based in the US and pursue its investment-based exploratory activities globally. Through its exploratory activities, it will be among the first to discover innovative technologies that lead to a virtuous cycle of social and economic value, which Murata will apply to long-term activities that contribute to the enrichment of society.
