PC AIB Shipments Follow Seasonality, Show Nominal Increase for Q4’24

According to a new research report from the analyst firm Jon Peddie Research, the growth of the global PC-based graphics add-in board market reached 9.2 million units in Q1'25 and desktop PC CPUs shipments decreased to 17.8 million units.
Overall, AIBs will have a compound annual growth rate of -10.3% from 2024 to 2028 and reach an installed base of 130 million units at the end of the forecast period. Over the next five years, the penetration of AIBs in desktop PCs will be 86%.
As indicated in the following chart, AMD's overall AIB market share decreased -7.3% from last quarter, Intel's market share decreased -1.2%, and Nvidia's market share increased 8.5%.
The AIB overall attach rate in desktop PCs for the quarter increased to 151%, up 13.8% from last quarter.
The desktop PC CPU market decreased -14.5% year to year and decreased -20.6% quarter to quarter.
The first quarter is traditionally flat to down from the previous quarter. This quarter's AIB shipments were up from the 10-year average of 0.6%. This quarter's overall AIB shipments, including iGPUs, were up 8.4%.
“Although shipments increased—which would not be expected if the traditional seasonality cycle was restored—as the chart indicates, we’re still not back to normality, and the trade wars are unbalancing the overall market, further corrupting seasonality,” said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research.
In Q1’25, AMD and Nvidia introduced new AIBs, which stimulated the market.
