Compal Establishes Japan Office to Accelerate Growth in Automotive Infrared Sensing Market
September 2, 2025 | Compal Electronics Inc.Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Compal Electronics, Inc., a global leader in electronics manufacturing headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, announced the establishment of its Japan office in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
The new Japan office will serve as a strategic hub for advancing Compal’s automotive infrared sensing technologies in the region. By establishing a local presence, Compal aims to deepen engagement with Japan OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and L4 autonomous driving service providers. The office will also provide specialized sales and engineering support tailored to the Japan market.
Driving Safety Through Infrared Innovation
Compal’s Automotive Electronics Products (AEP) Business Unit is committed to developing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that integrate infrared sensors with proprietary AI algorithms to enhance vehicular safety.
A key contributor to this effort is Compal’s Infrared Technology Systems (ITS) Division, which focuses on high-precision infrared camera solutions capable of detecting pedestrians and animals in low-visibility conditions such as nighttime, fog, or rain. These technologies are being developed in preparation for the implementation of FMVSS 127, a U.S. regulation requiring night-time pedestrian automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems starting in 2029. Sample shipments of compliant products are scheduled to begin in Q3 2025.
In addition, ITS is developing high-resolution sensing solutions to support the expansion of Operational Design Domains (ODD) for L4 autonomous vehicles, helping improve performance in complex urban and low-light environments.
Executive Endorsements
“Japan’s automotive industry is a global benchmark for safety and quality,” said Richard Seoane, General Manager of the ITS Division at Compal. “Our infrared sensing technology significantly enhances pedestrian safety during high-risk hours and in low-visibility conditions. It is also critical for expanding the operational boundaries of autonomous driving. This new office marks a major step in our global strategy, and we look forward to collaborating with Japan’s leading mobility innovators.”
He added: “Compal has earned the trust of global customers through decades of excellence in electronics manufacturing. By establishing a Japan office, we can deliver our automotive sensing solutions more directly and responsively to Japan customers. We are excited to build lasting partnerships and deliver tailored innovations to the Japan market.”
