Airspan Enables Commercial Launch of Gogo’s 5G Air-to-Ground Network

Airspan Networks Holdings LLC, a leading global provider of wireless network solutions, announced that its 5G Air-to-Ground (ATG) In-Motion 5G technology has enabled the commercial launch of the Gogo 5G network following successful in-air testing and validation performed in conjunction with Gogo. This milestone builds on the industry-first 5G ATG call, announced in June 2025, and confirms the readiness of the platform to support business, general and military/government aviation operators in the contiguous United States and southern Canada.
The commercial launch follows extensive flight testing that validated performance, mobility robustness, and network reliability under real-world aviation conditions. Gogo has now confirmed the availability of its next-generation 5G ATG service, powered by Airspan’s In-Motion 5G technology, designed specifically to address the high-speed mobility, coverage, and spectral efficiency challenges unique to air-to-ground communications.
“The transition from a successful live 5G air-to-ground call to full commercial launch is a critical proof point,” said Glenn Laxdal, CEO of Airspan Networks. “This milestone would not have been possible without strong collaboration across our ecosystem - including Airspan’s innovative technology team, Gogo for their leadership in inflight connectivity, and GCT Semiconductor for delivering the advanced chipset technology underpinning this platform. Together, we have taken the 5G air-to-ground solution from concept to commercial reality.”
Airspan’s In-Motion platform is the world’s first 5G air-to-ground broadband solution deployed at scale. It enables a range of adjacent use cases including First Responder and Public Safety situational awareness, UAV Delivery, Aerial Inspection, Surveying and Sensing services, and a multitude of Defense use cases.
The platform is built on a cloud-native, scalable 5G architecture, and provides an end-to-end solution encompassing the 5G RAN, core, user equipment (UE), and unified network management. This integrated design enables advanced mobility management, optimized handovers, and high-capacity broadband for air-to-ground communications.
