The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) released the following statement from SIA President and CEO John Neuffer applauding seven R&D awards announced by the CHIPS Research and Development Office (CRDO) to accelerate semiconductor R&D for the advanced compute supply chain. These investments will bolster the technologies that support AI, healthcare, defense systems, manufacturing, and other strategic industries while strengthening America’s leadership across the semiconductor ecosystem. The award recipients include SIA member company GlobalFoundries for research to accelerate co-packaged optics.
“Semiconductor innovation is the foundation of America’s leadership in AI, advanced computing, and the countless technologies that drive our economy and national security,” said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. “We applaud the Trump Administration for advancing these strategic investments, which will accelerate next-generation semiconductor R&D, strengthen America’s innovation ecosystem, and help ensure the United States remains the global leader in chip technology. SIA looks forward to continuing to work with the Administration and Congress to advance policies that promote innovation, reinforce supply chains, and expand U.S. leadership in semiconductors.”
Research is critical for the success of the U.S. semiconductor industry. American semiconductor companies invested a record-breaking $76.8 billion on R&D in 2025, and federally supported research plays a critical role in enhancing private sector investment to drive innovation. Ensuring U.S. semiconductor companies remain at the forefront of technological innovation requires reliable access to top-tier talent, effective intellectual property protections, and robust science programs that generate the discoveries and workforce needed to power the industry’s future.
