Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) is pleased to announce that it will host an educational webinar entitled “Harsh Environment Protection for Advanced Electronics and Components” on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. ET | 11 a.m. PT. The webinar will be co-hosted with PennEnergy, Military & Aerospace Electronics and LEDs Magazine, and will be available for registration at SCSwebinars.com.
Today’s advanced electronics and components must perform reliably for the life of the end product, despite increasingly harsh operating environments (e.g., extreme temperatures and pressures, moisture and chemical exposure, UV exposure, etc.). For decades, designers have turned to conformal coatings to provide protection to devices in the electronics, energy, automotive, military, aerospace and medical device industries, but as technologies continue to advance, component complexities increase and new materials are introduced into products, traditional coating options have faced challenges.
For more than 40 years, Parylene conformal coatings have enhanced the reliability of numerous devices and parts, including circuit boards, sensors, MEMS/semiconductor products, LEDs, implantable medical devices, and elastomeric and metal components, in a host of applications.
This webinar will offer an opportunity to learn more about ultra-thin Parylene conformal coatings – how they are applied, applications that they protect today, and the properties and benefits they offer, including:
- Thermal stability up to 450°C long-term (350°C short-term)
- Excellent chemical and moisture barrier properties
- High dielectric strength per unit thickness
- Superior UV stability
- Low coefficient of friction
- Truly conformal, pinhole-free coverage (no air-gaps or voids)
The webinar also will discuss recent advances in adhesion technologies that have significantly increased bonding strength to highly polished metal surfaces and polymeric substrates, and the role Parylenes play in advanced micro and nano-level technologies.
As applications and materials continue to evolve, new developments in Parylene conformal coatings enhance performance and reliability, adding value to products and applications.

Smart Automation AI—Revolutionizing Inspection in Electronics Manufacturing
05/27/2025 | Josh Casper -- Column: Smart AutomationArtificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming a staple in our personal and professional lives. In electronics manufacturing, integrating AI to combat common inefficiencies and to contextualize data will open new doors into how we supplement our traditional processes. In some specific areas of the electronics manufacturing process, integration of AI on the factory floor is already having a tremendous effect. One such area is PCBA inspection, particularly 3D automated optical inspection (AOI) systems.

American Made Advocacy: Lobbying Congress Supports the Supply Chain
05/27/2025 | Shane Whiteside -- Column: American Made AdvocacyThe upheaval in world markets is driving daily headlines. The global supply chain has seemed “normal” for the microelectronics industry because over the past three decades, an increasing percentage of microelectronics components and materials have been made overseas. For many years, other countries, primarily in Asia, invested heavily in their microelectronics industry while U.S. companies offshored manufacturing services in pursuit of the lowest cost.
