IBIDEN Engineering Starts Water Floating Solar Power Generation
March 29, 2016 | IBIDENEstimated reading time: Less than a minute
IBIDEN Engineering Co., Ltd. started operation of the Japan’s largest water floating solar power generation plant, which employs in-house developed floats, at the closed lumberyard parking site of IBIDEN’s Kinuura Plant. The new plant started power generation on February 15, 2016, and celebrated its successful opening ceremony on March 14, 2016.
The water floating solar power generation system has 7,680 solar panels and is expected to have a certificated output of 1.99 MW and an annual output of approximately 2,400 MWh. This is almost equivalent to annual energy consumption of 660 households and offsets an annual reduction of approximately 1,120 tons of CO2. All electricity generated is sold to the power company.
To install the water floats, the Company developed a lightweight, corrosion-resistant and high-density polyethylene that is patent-pending. Solar power generation output usually drops in the summer due to the rise in outside air temperature, however , the water floating system, possibly reflecting a cooling effect, is expected to boost power generation 5% compared to the land-based system.
In these operations, the IBIDEN Group continues to respect people and the global environment.
