BEST to Hold Workshop for PCB Inspection at SMTAI
July 14, 2016 | BEST Inc.Estimated reading time: 1 minute
BEST announces that it will be holding the first ever “Inspection of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies” hands-on workshop at the SMTA’s SMTAI trade show in September of this year in Rosemont, IL. This session is to help screen for new potential inspectors, to sharpen current inspector’ skills and to make current inspectors more effective in their work.
After reviewing the literature on visual inspection and its effectiveness the students in the workshop will review what makes for a good inspector, how to screen for positive attributes in an inspector as well as PCB inspection strategies. In addition, the types of equipment available to both get the correct lighting and magnification for the inspection of PCBs will be shown and discussed. While there will be a review of important inspection criteria the students should already have a working knowledge of JSTD-001, IPC-A-610 and IPC-600. This knowledge will then be used on a timed testing basis to inspect boards with known defects. The class will then review each of the boards and explain the defects and how to find them. This class will be unique as all of the equipment will be brought to the trade show.
Two BEST master instructors will be teaching this workshop. The session is “WS11” and will be held on September 26 from 8:30AM until noon. Register for the conference now on the SMTA International official website.

06/20/2025 | Andy Shaughnessy, I-Connect007It’s been a busy week in this industry, and we have news and articles from the PCB design, fabrication and assembly communities. Some of this news is out of this world. We may be losing the high ground—the really high ground. Columnist Jesse Vaughan explains how the U.S. seems to be falling behind in space, and how this could affect our ability to defend ourselves in the future. We have an update on the U.S.-China tariff talks, which seem to be moving forward, though sometimes at a snail’s pace.
