Ionics EMS Names New President and COO

Philippine-based Ionics EMS Inc. has announced the election as board member and the appointment of Dr. Jay Sabido as its president and chief operating officer. Responsible for all the operating units, he will report directly to Ionics founder, chairman and CEO Larry Qua.
Dr. Sabido has over 20 years of technology management, business development, R&D, product development, manufacturing engineering and operations experiences. He previously served as the R&D Executive of IBM, Director of Research and Development of REMEC Broadband Wireless International, and CTO of Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. He was also the vice president of sales and marketing and concurrently the director of research of Silicon Valley start-up Wave Optics Inc.
With stints in government services, Sabido was the director of the Philippine Government’s R&D institute of electronics and IT, the Department of Science and Technology’s Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) and also a DOST undersecretary and director general of the National Computer Center.
“We are pleased to have Jay’s technology competency and leadership strength in the Ionics family,” said Qua. “His ability to execute, deliver, innovate, strategically think and build new teams will be pivotal in steering Ionics to the next level of significant growth and profitability.”
Dr. Sabido earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of the Philippines, and Master’s and PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
