Congressman Mike Honda Visits Juki Automation's California Plant
August 18, 2015 | IPCEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Today, Congressman Mike Honda (D-Silicon Valley) met with executives and employees of IPC-member company Juki Automation Systems at the company’s facility in Fremont, Calif. Coordinated by IPC, the world’s leading association for electronics manufacturing companies, this visit is part of a nationwide effort to educate policymakers about legislative and regulatory issues that affect the electronics manufacturing industry.
During his visit, Rep. Honda toured the facility and met with staff to discuss the current state of the manufacturing industry and various policy issues including federal efforts to develop a National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). Rep. Honda was an active cosponsor of the Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation (RAMI) Act, passed in late 2014, which authorized a series of NNMI institutes to be established around the country.
“I am grateful that Juki Automation Systems and IPC invited me into their facilities,” said Rep. Honda. “Every chance to see the work of companies like Juki up close is a reminder of the essential contributions they make to California’s and our country’s economies.”
“We want to thank Rep. Honda for his visit to Juki today, and for his strong support of the manufacturing industry,” said Hiroaki Yamazaki, vice president of Juki Automation Systems. “Rep. Honda is working hard to help ensure our industry continues to grow and contribute to today’s economy.”
Juki is one of the world’s leading surface mount technology (SMT) placement companies with more than 28,000 machines installed worldwide, and is the pioneer of the modular automated assembly line. Based in Morrisville, N.C., Juki Automation Systems distributes assembly systems, and operates as a subsidiary of Juki Corp. based in Tokyo, Japan.
Rep. Honda’s visit was part of IPC’s “Meet the Policymakers” program, through which IPC government relations staff arrange opportunities for IPC member-companies to host elected officials at company locations.
IPC member companies interested in hosting a legislator should contact IPC Vice President of Government Relations John Hasselmann at johnhasselmann@ipc.org.
