SCS to Present at the Contamination, Cleaning and Coating Conference
April 24, 2017 | Specialty Coating Systems (SCS)Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) will exhibit and present during the SMTA Contamination, Cleaning and Coating Conference, scheduled to take place May 22-24, 2017, in Amsterdam. SCS will exhibit its Parylene conformal coatings that protect a wide range of components and devices in the electronics, automotive, defense, avionics and medical device industries.
SCS Vice President of Technology Rakesh Kumar, Ph.D. will present the paper entitled, “Challenges of designing electronics for conformal insulation to enhance their protection and reliability” on Wednesday, May 24. While the use of conformal coating is, generally, to protect and extend the life of the electronics, it is also important to understand and consider various design requirements of the electronics in order to successfully enhance the product’s reliability long-term. For example, the choice of the materials used in a product may have an impact on coating's performance.
For electronics, it is critical that components are assembled appropriately to ensure complete coverage by the coating as desired for functionality. Additionally, any masking or damasking requirements should be discussed to avoid any incompatibilities between the product and the coating. Finally, conformal coatings can fail due to the presence of contamination underneath the coating, making product cleaning a point of consideration.
This presentation highlights many aspects of electronics manufacturing that should be considered during the design stage of the product - prior to the application of any conformal coating. It further discusses specific aspects/requirements for Parylene coatings and highlights some of the key features that contribute towards enhancing the reliability and protection of electronics and components.
SCS is the leader in Parylene coating services and technologies with 19 coating facilities around the world. Additionally, the company has more than 45 years of applications experience in the electronics, automotive, medical device and defense industries.
About Specialty Coating Systems

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
10/31/2025 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007Last week, the IMPACT conference took place in Taipei, bringing together advanced packaging experts from around the globe to share their knowledge. We’ll be bringing you post-conference coverage over the next few weeks, so look for that in our newsletters, and in the Advanced Electronic Packaging Digest. Other news seemed to have the U.S. at the center of the global discussions. My picks start in Phoenix, where TSMC, NVIDIA, and Amkor are all scrambling to establish new capabilities. There’s nothing like a strong demand signal to cause build-out, and AI chips are doing exactly that.
