August 14, 2018 | SMTAEstimated reading time: 3 minutes
During the 2018 Annual Meeting at SMTA International, the SMTA will honor members who have shown exceptional service to the association and the electronics assembly industry.
The SMTA’s highest honor, the Founder’s Award, recognizes members who have made exceptional contributions to the industry, as well as support and service to the SMTA. This year, the SMTA selects Raiyo Aspandiar, Ph.D., Intel Corporation, to receive this prestigious award. SMTA and the electronics industry have benefited immensely from Aspandiar’s support over the years. His contributions of leadership to the journal, nominating, strategic development and technical committees, as well as the VP of Technical Programs, have truly set the standard for bringing educational and technical opportunities to the SMTA.
The Member of Technical Distinction Award recognizes individuals who have made significant and continuing technical contributions to the SMTA. This year the Awards Committee selected Luu Nguyen, Ph.D., Texas Instruments, as the recipient of this prestigious award. Dr. Nguyen has been a key contributor to the advancement of packaging technologies for more than 25 years. He has co-edited two books on packaging, produced over 200 publications and has over 70 patents and invention disclosures. He played an important role in the International Wafer-Level Packaging Conference as a speaker, chair and member of the technical committee for several years, and currently serves on the Hutchins Grant committee.
The Excellence in Leadership Award honors SMTA members who stand out as strong leaders in the Association. The 2018 recipient of this award is Steve Greathouse, Plexus Corp. Greathouse has been dedicated to the success of the SMTA for over 20 years. He has demonstrated his leadership experience as VP Communications on the Board of Directors, holding various roles on the Intermountain Chapter leadership team, as a member of the SMTA International technical committee, internet committee, marcom committee, and as an SMTA Ambassador. The SMTA thanks Greathouse for his many valuable years of service.
The Excellence in International Leadership Award recognizes members who have provided outstanding support and leadership to the SMTA's international members, chapters, or educational programs. The two recipients selected for this award are Keith Bryant, Yxlon International and Soeren Noerlyng, Micronsult.
Keith Bryant has dedicated to the success of the SMTA for many years as a speaker, exhibitor, session chair and a technical committee member for several major conferences. Bryant has played a critical role in the leadership team responsible for the transition of the UK-based SMART Group organization into SMTA Europe. Bryant’s international leadership is upheld by his continued commitment to the success of the SMTA.
Soeren Noerlyng has served the SMTA as an active member for over 20 years. He has served on the steering committee of the Pan Pacific Symposium and as a session chair for the past 18 years. He presented multiple papers that have solidified the Pan Pacific Symposium as a leading technical conference. The SMTA thanks Noerlyng for his many years of contributions and support for its international events.
Indium Corporation will receive the SMTA+ Corporate Partnership Award this year. As a corporate SMTA member for over 30 years, Indium has shown support at every level of the association from supporting chapter and board leadership positions to technical contributions for conferences, committees, and most importantly their willingness to share technical knowledge with others in the industry. They embody the SMTA mission by encouraging employees to become members, attend meetings and share their knowledge. Indium is most deserving of this honor.
SMTA has recognized exceptional individual and corporate members for their immeasurable contributions to the Association since 1994. Winners will be recognized at the Annual Meeting during the 2018 SMTA International Conference in Rosemont, Illinois.
