Altium Launches Altium Design 19.1 and Free Online Design Visualization ToolJune 6, 2019 | Altium LLC
Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Altium LLC, a leading provider of electronics design systems for PCB design, today announced the release of Altium Designer 19.1 and the Altium 365 Viewer, a free online tool that allows anyone to view Altium Designer projects on the web.
“Altium is dedicated to bringing high-performance, easy-to-use tools to the electronics design industry,” said Ted Pawela, Chief Operations Officer at Altium. “Altium Designer 19.1 and Altium 365 Viewer further streamline the design to realization process through improving the PCB design experience.”
Incorporating user feedback from the Altium BugCrunch forum, recently launched Altium 19.1 offers a number of enhancements and further improvements to the product’s performance and stability, reducing the occurrence of errors and increasing productive design time and efficiency. Altium Designer 19.1 builds on the stability enhancements in previous versions and reflects the company’s increasing investment of resources into addressing customer-submitted bugs and ideas. Altium continues to encourage users to submit feedback via the Altium BugCrunch forum.
Along with the improvements in stability and performance in Altium Designer 19.1, Altium also released Altium 365 Viewer, a new tool that makes viewing Altium Designer design files easier. Previously, viewing Altium Designer Projects required an Altium Designer License or a traditional read-only viewer license. Altium 365 Viewer offers a simpler way to visualize and share schematics, view printed circuit board designs in 2D and 3D, and monitor bill of materials within a browser through a simple drag-and-drop process, without requiring any software whatsoever. Further, once a design is loaded, the Altium 365 Viewer will automatically link the associated bill of materials to live supply chain information powered by Octopart.
“Altium 365 Viewer also offers the electronics design and development community a glimpse into Altium 365,” said Lawrence Romine, Vice President of Global Marketing. “Currently in beta testing, the Altium 365 cloud-based platform brings convenient collaboration to the entire product development process, from design to the manufacturing floor.”

The Printed Circuit Designer's Guide to...Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
I just finished counting the percentage of times in which artificial intelligence/machine learning/data analytics topics appeared in the I-Connect007 news this week. What do you think the percentage is? AI has moved well beyond a technical term; heck, it has clearly also eclipsed catch-phrase status. It seems a foregone conclusion that AI applications will be inserting themselves into manufacturing just as they are appearing in our handheld devices. Speaking of handhelds, that market seems to be growing as well. This week’s five must-reads include smartphone market data, telecom infrastructure development, a new white paper on the influence of data analytics, a report on the European market, and the launch of a new podcast series on PCB 3.0, a new design methodology.
DuPont today announced that Jon Kemp, President, DuPont Electronics & Industrial, has been named Chair of the Board of Industry Leaders of SEMI, a global industry association serving the electronics design and manufacturing supply chain.
With the seemingly endless ways that electronic products are worming their way into our lives, what was once “nice to own” is increasingly considered indispensable. The capabilities of these products have been driven by relentless improvements at every level of the manufacturing chain, from individual transistors (which are approaching Angstrom levels) to systems the size of buildings supporting Bitcoin mining and increasingly distributed AI products.
HARMAN, an automotive electronics technology company and subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. focused on delivering consumer experiences at automotive grade, confirms it will continue as an Official partner of Scuderia Ferrari for a second Formula One season. The on-track marketing partnership extends to technology on the road, with Ferrari becoming the first automotive OEM to adopt a number of solutions from HARMAN’s in-cabin monitoring system, HARMAN Ready Care, for its next-generation road cars.
Maggie Benson was in an expansive mood. It had been almost three years since her grandfather asked her to take over Benson Electronics. By using Lean techniques, cost modeling the assembly process, and implementing continuous improvement, the company made significant profitability improvements.
