Current IssueRules of Thumb
This month, we delve into rules of thumb—which ones work, which ones should be avoided. Rules of thumb are everywhere, but there may be hundreds of rules of thumb for PCB design. How do we separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak?
Partial HDI
Our expert contributors provide a complete, detailed view of partial HDI this month. Most experienced PCB designers can start using this approach right away, but you need to know these tips, tricks and techniques first.

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
June 11, 2021 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
My colleague, Andy Shaughnessy, attended a live, in-person trade show, in Atlanta, on Wednesday, June 9. Yes, he really did! Andy covered IMS 2021 at the Georgia World Congress Center, and his report was that it was both weird and wonderful to be back on the show floor—even without carpeting (but I’ll let Andy tell that story).
This week’s can’t miss news items touch all the bases—unlike Pittsburgh Pirates Rookie Ke’Bryan Hayes, who didn’t touch all the bases on Tuesday night’s game, and had his home run revoked. We’ve got news on the Biden administration’s supply chain review, and we link to the IPC’s statement on the report. We also highlight SEMI’s statement of approval for the USICA funding for semiconductors. Software companies are in the news this week, as Cadence announces a new system design platform; whereas Altium and Autodesk do the M&A dance this week. Rounding out the top five is news that Arlon’s 84HP prepreg has been IPC validated.
