Choosing the Right Strategic Path
April 29, 2025 | Marcy LaRont, PCB007 MagazineEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Voices of the Industry: CEE PCB
Tom Yang, CEO of CEE PCB, discusses the current economic challenges, noting reduced purchasing power post-pandemic. He highlights the growing demand for HDI in consumer electronics due to AI growth. Tom also expresses concerns about tariffs under the new U.S. administration, prompting CEE to diversify production locations, including new plants in Southeast Asia. He emphasizes the need for PCB manufacturers to adapt strategically amidst rising costs and fierce competition, particularly for mid-sized shops facing unique challenges in the industry.
Marcy LaRont: Tom, how are you feeling about the state of the economy and the geopolitical and geo-economic climates?
Tom Yang: We cannot say the economy is an ideal situation. Generally, people are more hesitant to spend due to reduced purchasing power compared to pre-pandemic level.
The demand for PCBs varies depending on our client base and product lines. One news item is that the HDI market is gaining a larger share with the increasing use of machine learning (ML) computation and data centers spurred by AI growth. These end customers primarily operate in the consumer electronics sector.
Technology-wise, PCBs haven’t seen major breakthroughs, but overall, HDI is becoming more widely used in various consumer electronics applications (especially smartphones, computers, and wearables) so there is more demand for HDI PCBs.

Your 2026 Business Playbook: Step 1: Strategy Isn’t a Document, It’s a Commitment
12/10/2025 | Dan Beaulieu, D.B. Management GroupLet’s start with a tough truth most companies don’t want to hear: Strategy is not a binder, a spreadsheet, or a deck of slides. It is a commitment to what you will do every day. Yet every December and January, companies all over this industry gather the troops at a conference table, eat a few muffins, and create what can only be described as an annual work of fiction, otherwise known as the “strategic plan.”

Critical Minerals: The New Power Play in Global Trade
10/13/2025 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007Access to critical minerals essential for electronics manufacturing, and China’s monopoly of them, is increasingly under scrutiny, with gallium (Ga) and germanium (Ge)at the forefront of this discourse. However, all critical minerals imported from China share a similar narrative, and understanding the implications of this dependency and the risks to both U.S. commercial and defense sectors has created an urgent need for a comprehensive electronics strategy to secure and diversify access to these vital minerals. In this candid interview, USPAE Executive Director Jim Will discusses the issues and the mitigation steps that must be taken to adequately address them.
Global Sourcing Spotlight: Balancing Speed and Flexibility Without Sacrificing Control
10/15/2025 | Bob Duke -- Column: Global Sourcing SpotlightIn global sourcing, speed is a necessity; however, speed without flexibility is a recipe for chaos. Likewise, flexibility without structure leads to inefficiency. Companies thrive when they build agile global sourcing strategies that allow them to move quickly while adapting to market fluctuations, customer demands, and supply chain disruptions. Here’s how leading organizations successfully navigate the critical gap between speed and flexibility in global sourcing.
