This week, we have quite a variety of news items and articles for you. News continues to stream out of Washington, D.C., with tariffs rearing their controversial head again. Because these tariffs are targeted at overseas copper manufacturers, this news has a direct effect on our industry.
We start off my must-reads with an article written by our editors that explains what a 50% copper tariff could do to our segment of the industry. Next, Mukesh Vasani explains how he left India as a young man and ended up launching the SMT provider Aimtron in Chicago. Chris Ryder of MKS’ ESI is inaugurating a new I-Connect007 podcast this week, Optimize the InterconnectSM, which aims to look at microvia formation with a set of fresh eyes.
We also have a paper that was presented at the Pan-European Electronics Design Conference in Austria this year, which explains how to mitigate cavity resonances in metal enclosures and help prevent EMI problems. Finally, Michael Hinshaw discusses how Green Circuits became one of the largest contract manufacturers in California, but customers may feel like they’re working with a captive provider.

Study on Resonance Mitigation in Metallic Shielding for Integrated Circuits

Presented at the Pan-European Electronics Design Conference in Vienna, Austria, earlier this year, the paper explains how cavity resonances in metal shielding enclosures can be reduced or eliminated, allowing them to be used to protect PCBs from EMI, even at high frequencies.
