Jon Peddie Research reports that the global client CPU market expanded for two quarters in a row, and in Q2’25, it showed unseasonal growth of 7.9% from last quarter, while server CPU shipments increased 22% year over year.
Q1 is typically flat to down, and Q2 is normally down, but both were up. We think it was a result of “buy ahead of the tariffs.”
The overall server CPU market increased by 0.6% quarter to quarter and by 22% year to year.
“We think the PC CPUs’ growth was accelerated by the coming tariffs, and to a much lesser extent, by AI PCs,” said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research. “The client PC market has now had two consecutive quarters of growth, which is totally out of whack with traditional seasonality trends.”
JPR’s overview of the PC Client CPUs and iGPUs report is now available for free to Market Watch subscribers and can be purchased separately for $250.
The new Q2’25 edition of Market Watch will contain the above information and more. For easier consumption, we have revised the report's format from a heavily narrated version to a more visually appealing chart-based version. We have also added server and client CPU shipment data back to Q1’21 and GPU-compute (GPGPU) shipment data back to Q1’21 for AMD, Intel, and Nvidia. We have expanded the pivot data array to include those devices.
