Elementary, Mr. Watson: PCB Education in the Midst of the Storms

06/17/2026 | John Watson -- Column: Elementary, Mr. Watson
I should probably begin with an apology, because this may be a tough pill to swallow and not the small vitamin kind. This is one of those honking, huge pills that could choke a mule. My goal is not to criticize students, dismiss academia, or blame industry. In many ways, I am part of all three conversations. I teach students trying to find their way. I work in academia and believe deeply in the value of education. I also come from an industry that needs skilled PCB designers more than ever, yet sometimes seems surprised when they do not simply appear out of the mist, holding a completed layout, a clean DRC report, and 10 years of experience.

EIPC Summer Conference 2026: AI, Robots, and Historic Vilnius, Lithuania

06/15/2026 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007
Historic downtown Vilnius, Lithuania, hosted the sold-out EIPC Summer Conference, June 9–10, where 175 participants gathered at the AC Hotel, including representatives from the Global Electronics Association, FED, and four other industry associations. This year also included representation from 14 European PCB companies, and one—TTM— from the U.S., something that hasn’t happened for quite some time.

The Marketing Minute: AI Is Watching Your Marketing Habits

06/10/2026 | Brittany Martin -- Column: The Marketing Minute
Last summer, I decided I wanted to get better at skateboarding. I had no aspirations of becoming the next Tony Hawk; I simply wanted to feel more comfortable on the board. Like many people learning a new skill, I wanted progress to happen fairly quickly. It didn't. For weeks, every ride felt awkward. Then one day, I realized I wasn't thinking as much. I had better balance, and I felt more natural on the board. Progress had been accumulating through repetition. I've been thinking about that lesson recently because it reminds me of marketing, particularly as generative AI begins to change how customers discover companies and products.

It’s Only Common Sense: Lighten Up!

06/08/2026 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common Sense
There’s a strange thing that happens when you’ve been in business for a while. Somewhere between production schedules, endless emails, delayed shipments, quarterly reports, and meetings, we forget how to have fun. We start acting like joy is somehow unprofessional. Like if you smile too much at work, people won’t take you seriously. I’ve never believed that for a second. In fact, the longer I’ve been around business, the more convinced I’ve become that the happiest companies are usually the most creative, productive, and successful companies in the room.

Seeing a Problem, Building a Solution: The ChipHub Story

06/05/2026 | Global Electronics Association
After more than three decades in the hardware industry, Aftab Farooqi knew one thing for certain: the way companies source semiconductors and components wasn’t working as well as it could. “I spent years at companies like Google and Amazon working in semiconductor sourcing,” he explains. “We were evaluating hundreds of thousands of components, with billions of dollars in spend, but the process was still incredibly manual and inefficient.”
