Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

Koh Young Highlighting its Smart AI Solutions at the SMTA Atlanta Expo and Tech Forum
April 7, 2026 | Koh Young TechnologyEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Koh Young Technology, the industry leader in True 3D measurement-based inspection solutions, will present and exhibit at the upcoming SMTA Atlanta Expo & Tech Forum on Thursday, April 30, 2026 on the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
As part of the technical program, Joel Scutchfield of Koh Young America will present “The Practical Application of AI in SMT Assembly” at 11:00 a.m. His session will examine how artificial intelligence is being applied across the electronics assembly landscape today, where it is already delivering measurable value, and how manufacturers can use it more effectively to improve production performance.
“At Koh Young, we believe the conversation around AI must move beyond concepts and into practical factory use,” said Scutchfield. “Manufacturers do not need more theory. They need proven tools that can improve programming, streamline review, strengthen the process, and help teams make better decisions immediately on the floor.”
During the expo, Koh Young will be available to discuss application challenges with attendees and expand on the presentation topic through live conversations around its smart factory software solutions. These include KAP Auto Programming, Smart Review, KSMART, and KPO for printers and mounters, all designed to help electronics manufacturers apply AI in practical ways that improve speed, consistency, and process control.
Because the Atlanta event is also near the regional headquarters of Koh Young America, it provides an ideal opportunity for regional manufacturers to connect directly with the team and continue the discussion after the expo. Companies interested in learning more can schedule a private follow-up meeting or demo with Koh Young to explore specific production goals, inspection challenges, and smart factory priorities in greater detail.
“We are especially excited to participate in an event that is right in our backyard,” added Scutchfield. “The SMTA Atlanta Expo is a great setting for practical discussions with engineers and manufacturing leaders who want to understand how AI can be applied in a way that delivers real production results. We encourage attendees to join the session, visit our table, and continue the conversation with us afterward.”
Visitors are invited to attend Joel Scutchfield’s presentation and meet with the Koh Young team during the show to learn why the company continues to lead the way in production-ready AI solutions for electronics manufacturing. For those who would like to explore these solutions further after the event, Koh Young welcomes follow-up discussions and can arrange private demonstrations through its regional team. Connect them at kohyoungamerica.com or through its social channels.
