The winners of the “ 2026 Hon Hai Technology Award” , organized by the Hon Hai Education Foundation , were announced.This year’s Hon Hai Technology Award is the first to be divided into two categories: “Academic Group” and “Applied Group”, attracting more than 200 outstanding students from home and abroad to apply. In addition to top universities in Taiwan such as National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, and National Cheng Kung University, students from top universities in the United States MIT, Princeton and Stanford University, the Technical University of Munich in Germany, as well as Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and other countries participated in the competition.
Amidst fierce competition, the 2026 Foxconn Technology Awards produced 14 winners in the academic category and 10 winners in the applied category, showcasing the outstanding research of the younger generation. For example, Chien Yin-Tung, a winner in the academic category from the Department of Optoelectronic Engineering at National Yang-Ming National Chiao Tung University, researched "Programmable MIMO Silicon Photonics Processor for Optical Wireless Communication." His work successfully integrated silicon photonics with a programmable architecture, breaking through the hardware transmission bottleneck of next-generation high-speed optical communication. This forward-looking technology demonstrated a strong academic foundation and practical potential. Tseng Tzu-Yun, a student from the University of Sydney, Australia, won the Foxconn Technology Award in the applied category for his research on "CUDAL. " This research tackled the challenge of autonomous driving recognition in rainy rural areas and with water reflections, possessing high practicality and a complete data benchmark. It was also recognized by IEEE . His multi-sensor fusion technology is perfectly adapted to electric vehicle software stacks, substantially improving driving safety in real-world environments.
In addition to receiving substantial awards of NT$ 250,000 each in the academic category and NT$ 100,000 each in the applied category , the award-winning students also enjoy valuable opportunities for in-depth exchanges with industry mentors within Foxconn and internships at Foxconn Technology Group. Through direct participation in practical work at a world-leading technology company, the award-winning students can further bridge the gap between their academic studies and practical applications, and connect with real-world needs in advance.
