JUKI Releases Space-saving PWB Inspection Machine
October 2, 2015 | JUKIEstimated reading time: 1 minute

JUKI recently released a space-saving compact PWB Inspection Machine—RV-2—a single-lane inspection machine that inherits the high-accuracy inspection capability of the RV-1.
Featuring the same high-brightness white LED 3-stage ring lighting "Clear Vision Capturing System" as RV-1, the new system makes it possible to pick up very clear image for every test subject, such as 0.4x0.2mm size chips or solder fillets. Even in high-density mounting board, such as mobile devices which are continuing to become smaller and smaller, defects are detected fast and accurately to realize high-quality production.
In addition, JUKI's unique calibration technology adjusts distortion of XY axis and lens, and lighting individual differences, to avoid instrumental errors among equipment. Stable inspection results with no machine differences can be captured even when you run same inspection program in several lines, with high repeat accuracy.
Furthermore, the production support system "TOPSS" enables central controls of OK/NG judgment, quality traceability, and inspection results' statistical analysis (SPC) for high quality management.
In addition to the 2D inspection methods, the standard "i-3D" function with luminance difference stereo system enables clear capturing of 3D pictures for inspecting solder volumes, height and area for high quality 3D SPI. "e-3D" in laser light section method is also available as option for high accurate 3D AOI to check component float, lead float, missing component and more.

Nolan’s Notes: Looking Deep Into the Future With X-ray
04/02/2025 | Nolan Johnson -- Column: Nolan's NotesAs a diagnostic tool, X-ray has been around for over a century, and available to EMS inspection for some years. It seems the industry has moved far enough forward to fully embrace X-ray on the assembly line. I’m reminded of Wayne Gretzky’s famous comment about the secret to his scoring success: “I skate to where the puck will be, not where the puck is.” I liken that to X-ray inspection, which has been standing here all this time waiting for the industry to catch up. Has X-ray’s time finally come in electronics manufacturing?
