Libra Industries Sponsors Annual AWT RoboBot Competition
April 14, 2016 | Libra IndustriesEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Libra Industries, a privately held electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, will sponsor and participate in the 2016 Alliance for Working Together (AWT) RoboBot Competition. This year marks Libra Industries' fifth year in participating in the annual competition. The company will be a silver sponsor for the event.
Libra Industries and Focus Manufacturing will coach the Mentor High School students to develop two RoboBots this year (team Nightfall & Gang for Good). With more than 30 teams competing, the AWT plans to have a full house at Lakeland Community College for the competition.
The competition gives students an opportunity to participate in a unique experiential learning experience. This hands-on career exploration opportunity allows them to truly experience what it means to work in manufacturing. Students leave this experience with an increased awareness of the careers available to them and the educational opportunities linked to those careers. They work alongside engineers and machinists on the manufacturing floor. Additionally, the students develop relationships with industry partners that can lead to internship and career opportunities.
The AWT was established in 2002 as a small informal group to discuss topics of interest and as a way to reach out to other manufacturers in the region. The AWT has since been meeting to address issues, challenges and best practices. Rod Howell, CEO of Libra Industries has been a board member of the AWT for since early on.
The AWT consortium now includes more than 100 manufacturing companies. The AWT Foundation’s mission is to promote the development of rewarding careers in manufacturing for the long-term success and growth of manufacturing community.
Libra Industries continues to invest to provide customized manufacturing solutions to help make its customers more competitive and improve their profitability.
