NEPCON Shenzhen 2015 Puts Spotlight on China's EMS Industry
August 11, 2015 | Reed Exhibitions Greater ChinaEstimated reading time: 5 minutes

From ODM and OEM to EMS, the Chinese electronics manufacturing industry is transforming from single, passive processing to active, intelligent manufacturing—in line with the "Made in China 2025" plan, as well as the latest trends happening in the electronics industry.
NEPCON South China 2015, to be held at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center from August 25 to August 27, will debut its EMS Sourcing Center, integrating various electronics manufacturing industry resources and convening numerous local and international exhibitors, industry elites and VIP buyers to experience the latest developments in China’s electronics manufacturing services (EMS) industry, against the backdrop of China’s version of Industry 4.0.
The NEPCON EMS Sourcing Center is currently the only commercial sourcing platform that provides EMS solutions for electronics product brands and electronics innovators in China. Under the umbrella of NEPCON, the largest and longest-running electronics manufacturing event in China, the EMS Sourcing Center will gather high-profile electronics contract manufacturers, conceptual design companies and innovator incubation platforms. In this unique pavilion, electronics brand enterprises, product developers and electronic innovators can learn about the product delivery capabilities of EMS suppliers, including sourcing, manufacturing and logistics. It is also an opportunity to see original designs of all types of emerging electronics products, and potentially win investment that will optimize their supply chain, boost R&D capabilities, expand product lines, and enhance market advantage.
NEPCON South China 2015, a leading electronics industry event in southern China, primarily displays basic electronics manufacturing process products and technologies and includes numerous system solutions that bring products to life. These are at the core of the future electronics industry. The exhibition will cover SMT technologies and equipment, welding equipment and materials, test and measurement solutions, electronics manufacturing automation equipment, motion control, and robots, to give visitors and VIP buyers a comprehensive perspective of the industry.
EMS Leads Development in Electronics Manufacturing
The most important task in the EMS industry is to provide a complete set of manufacturing service schemes. Although ODM and OEM companies can also do this, EMS companies distinguish themselves in how they deliver this service. Material sourcing, manufacturing, quality control, logistics, distribution, after-sale services and other content that heavily relies on EMS have already become the features of the EMS industry. Currently, ODM, OEM and EMS companies coexist, occupying a virtually identical market share. EMS companies distinguish themselves when manufacturing service providers are required to serve wider geographic areas and to conduct sourcing, distribution and maintenance globally to match the global sales and reduced costs to international brands.
Although EMS companies have no products of their own, they guarantee quality and low-cost manufacturing by virtue of strong production capacity, experience and technologies. They count Apple, Samsung, Ericsson, HP and many other internationally renowned electronics makers among their customers. Original factories can accelerate product R&D, reduce costs and improve competitiveness by entrusting EMS enterprises with the basic electronics manufacturing link.
The EMS industry will continue to develop new service fields, including intelligent electronics, medical electronics, automotive electronics, consumer electronics, telecommunications and other industries. At the same time, more attention will be paid to renewable energy, greater environment awareness and market demands for high-performance, diversified, portable and personalized intelligent electronics manufacturing equipment in the era of Internet of Things (IoT), creating growth opportunities for EMS. As more electronics manufacturers extend their production lines and enter the fields of renewable energy and IoT, this will affect the EMS business model. EMS service companies’ ability to capitalize on growth opportunities and provide more effective value-added services will be key to their sustained success.
EMS Development in China
Although the EMS industry started relatively late in China, it has developed at a rapid pace. With new state policies and the shift of the global electronics manufacturing center, China is becoming a key market for global manufacturing, and attracting numerous international capital investments.
In the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Bohai Rim region, relatively mature and complete electronics industry communities thrive. While the "Made in China" brand has spread across the world, OEM and EMS are becoming new modes of production in Chinese electronics manufacturing. Although still in the early stages of development, they enjoy bright future prospects.
Of course, there is a substantive gap between China and developed nations. For a long time, the country’s OEM and EMS companies paid more attention to single-ability scale construction, were poor in multi-regional operation management, had insufficient understanding of long-term value brought by upstream and downstream value-added services. They did not adequately differentiate from the competition, and, gradually, the gap between Foxconn, Flextronics and other industry leaders with regard to complete process services, industrial matching and multi-regional matching for customers grew.
For this reason, NEPCON will disseminate the latest and cutting-edge EMS products and schemes to launch the advanced innovation achievements on the market and generate values as soon as possible. The EMS Sourcing Center, the only commercial sourcing platform committed to providing EMS for electronics manufacturing brands in China, facilitates experience exchange and exploration for exhibitors and visitors, catering to industry development trends and rapidly reshaping the global electronics manufacturing industry chain.
NEPCON South China 2015 Debuts EMS Sourcing Center
NEPCON South China 2015 will convene numerous well-known local and international brands, and attract over 35,000 industry elites and VIP buyers across 37,500sqm of exhibition space. The Electronics Manufacturing Automation (EMA) Pavilion and EMS Center will deliver a high return on participants’ investment.
Through years of development, exhibitors have accumulated rich experience and yielded strong research results. A fast-developing EMS service industry will become a new force in electronics manufacturing. The exhibition is an optimal communication platform for electronics industry professionals to learn about new products, technologies and trends. It is also an important stage for a number of well-known electronics manufacturing automation exhibitors to promote themselves.

05/30/2024 | Marcy LaRont, PCB007 MagazineIPC APEX EXPO 2024 will soon feel like a distant memory, and by all accounts, it was a good show with an impressive display of technical knowledge. During the show, I visited with industry icons and IPC Hall of Fame recipients Dan Feinberg and Gene Weiner, who were among the original visionaries and founders of what became APEX EXPO. These individuals took me on a funny and engaging historic journey and a glimpse into how we arrived today.
