Current IssueRules of Thumb
This month, we delve into rules of thumb—which ones work, which ones should be avoided. Rules of thumb are everywhere, but there may be hundreds of rules of thumb for PCB design. How do we separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak?
Partial HDI
Our expert contributors provide a complete, detailed view of partial HDI this month. Most experienced PCB designers can start using this approach right away, but you need to know these tips, tricks and techniques first.
Silicon to Systems: From Soup to Nuts
This month, we asked our expert contributors to weigh in on silicon to systems—what it means to PCB designers and design engineers, EDA companies, and the rest of the PCB supply chain... from soup to nuts.

L3Harris Supports United Launch Alliance’s Second Vulcan Launch
October 10, 2024 | L3Harris TechnologiesEstimated reading time: Less than a minute
L3Harris Technologies successfully supported United Launch Alliance’s (ULA) second launch of its Vulcan rocket. The L3Harris state-of-the-art propulsion and avionics systems were instrumental in the certification mission, which launched an inert mass simulator.
“The Vulcan rocket will support national security, commercial and civil missions,” said Kristin Houston, President, Space Propulsion and Power Systems, Aerojet Rocketdyne, L3Harris. “Our propulsion and avionics systems will enable Vulcan to continue ULA’s legacy of delivering unparalleled reliability and precision to its customers.”
The second Vulcan launch serves as a vital step in certifying the rocket to carry national security payloads for the U.S. Space Force.
The Vulcan rocket features two L3Harris-built RL10 engines, providing a combined thrust of approximately 48,000 pounds to the Centaur V upper stage. The rocket also uses 12 MR-107 attitude-control thrusters and pressurized helium tanks from L3Harris, essential to the operation of the launch vehicle. L3Harris’ avionics, including three different models of controllers, data acquisition units and the T-740U Telemetry Transmitter, also played a pivotal role in ensuring critical vehicle control and data transmission during the launch.
