I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
October 11, 2024 | Andy Shaughnessy, Design007 MagazineEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
I just got home from covering the Anaheim Electronics & Manufacturing Show and PCB West. I drove my first hybrid car this week; it was the fastest Camry I’ve ever seen, and it got at least 40 miles per gallon. As long as I don’t have to plug anything in, I won’t rule it out. But I know I’d forget to plug in a pureplay EV.
It was great seeing many of you on the West Coast. Everyone was positive about the industry, with the only caveat being, “Where can I find the staff I need to fill my open positions?” It was heartening to see some fresh-faced young engineers at AEMS and PCB West, but we’ll need more where they came from.
This week’s roundup is a duke’s mixture of news items and interviews with industry experts from design, fabrication and assembly. There’s a lot going on in electronics now. We’ll be bringing you full coverage of SMTA International the week of Oct. 20-24, so stay tuned.
AEMS: Third Time’s the Charm

San Diego’s Del Mar Electronics & Manufacturing Show (DMEMS) started out as a local show in 1995, eventually expanding into a regional destination. Three years ago, Del Mar’s managers launched a new event, the Anaheim Electronics & Manufacturing Show, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Check out our coverage of this rising show.
Battling Counterfeit Electronics in Manufacturing

Paul Jarski of Case New Holland is an expert in dealing with fake parts, and in this interview, he explains how counterfeit parts still manage to infiltrate supply chains.

Published October 10
For a while now, IPC instructor Kris Moyer has been teaching his students about partial HDI, which allows designers to escape route from tight-pitch BGAs when mechanical drilling is not an option. As Kris explains, if you’re working with advanced packaging, this might be just the process for you.

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
10/31/2025 | Nolan Johnson, I-Connect007Last week, the IMPACT conference took place in Taipei, bringing together advanced packaging experts from around the globe to share their knowledge. We’ll be bringing you post-conference coverage over the next few weeks, so look for that in our newsletters, and in the Advanced Electronic Packaging Digest. Other news seemed to have the U.S. at the center of the global discussions. My picks start in Phoenix, where TSMC, NVIDIA, and Amkor are all scrambling to establish new capabilities. There’s nothing like a strong demand signal to cause build-out, and AI chips are doing exactly that.
David Schild Addresses Printed Circuit Board Issues as a Panelist at AUVSI
10/30/2025 | PCBAAOn October 28, Printed Circuit Board Association of America executive director David Schild appeared on a panel at the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) conference on the topic of “First Supply Chains: Strengthening the Industrial Base for Autonomy.” PCBAA sponsored the event and Schild shared his views on issues facing the American microelectronics industry.
I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
10/24/2025 | Andy Shaughnessy, I-Connect007This week, we have quite a bit of international content in this week’s list of must-reads. Nothing happens in a vacuum, including electronics manufacturing and design, and this has been quite an eventful year. How many of us are now tariff experts? I’m certainly not, but that hasn’t stopped me from opining about the situation.
Marcy’s Musings: The Legislative Outlook—Helping or Hurting?
10/20/2025 | Marcy LaRont -- Column: Marcy's MusingsJust before we were ready to publish our October issue of PCB007 Magazine, some breaking news from the White House, unfortunately (but perfectly) parlayed into why the topic of this month’s issue has been so important to cover in great depth.
I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
10/17/2025 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007Much of the news over the last week focused on the push-pull between the U.S. and China and the latter’s most recent announcement about rare earth mineral restrictions. Despite that situation, the IMF raised its growth forecast, and global markets showed cautious optimism. Then, as the U.S. attempted to retreat from all environmentally based policy and ESG gains achieved to date, the global shipping emissions pact continues to gain momentum.
