PCB Design Takes Center Stage at FED’s Design Awards

09/17/2026 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007
PCB designers often work behind the scenes, but their decisions can determine whether an electronic product succeeds in manufacturing. At the FED Annual Conference in Germany on Sept. 23, the PCB Design Award 2026 will put that work in the spotlight. Marcy LaRont interviewed FED Managing Director Christoph Bornhorn and board member Erika Reel about what makes a winning design, and how the profession is changing as AI, automation, and other technologies reshape electronics development.

Dan’s Biz Bookshelf: ‘Building a Story Brand 2.0’

09/15/2026 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: Dan's Biz Bookshelf
Occasionally, a business book comes along that makes you stop and say, “Yes, this makes sense. Why are we making it so complicated?” Donald Miller’s "Building a Story Brand 2.0: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen" is that kind of book. I have spent most of my career working with companies on sales, marketing, branding, positioning, and business development. One of the biggest problems I see is that companies have a very difficult time explaining what they do in a way that customers actually care about. They know their own company too well.

Marcy’s Musings: A World of Difference

09/17/2026 | Marcy LaRont -- Column: Marcy's Musings
I've spent a good deal of time in Asia over the years, both traveling and living there, so arriving in Thailand for THECA wasn't my first experience stepping into another culture or another way of doing business. Still, there is something about being there—moving through a different city, sitting down with people, listening to their conversations, and watching how they approach familiar challenges—that gets me thinking.

It’s Only Common Sense: Why Should They Take Your Call?

09/14/2026 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common Sense
Think about the customer receiving your sales call. She’s dealing with material shortages, changing laminate allocations, extended component lead times, tariff questions, unpredictable transportation costs, and management pressure to protect both delivery and margin. Then the phone rings, and a salesperson asks, “Do you have anything I can quote?” It’s time to rethink that relationship. Call customers because you have information that could help them make a better decision, not because you want an order. Instead of asking, “What can you give me?” you are saying, “Here is something you should know.” Now you are a resource, not an interruption.

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week

09/11/2026 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007
I feel compelled to start off by recognizing that today marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic activities that took place on 9/11/2001. Like so many of us, I will never forget exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard that United flights 11 and 175 had struck the World Trade Center in NYC. That day, the world was forever changed, and the effects still reverberate. Today, I am taking a moment to remember the lives lost and the heroism and coming together that day brought about.
