Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

Absolute EMS Celebrates 30 Years of Electronics Manufacturing in Silicon Valley
January 13, 2026 | Absolute EMS, Inc.Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Absolute EMS, Inc., a six-time award-winning provider of fast turnaround, turnkey contract electronic manufacturing services (EMS), is celebrating its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of steady growth, expanded capabilities, and long-term customer partnerships in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Since its founding in 1996 with an initial focus on medical device manufacturing, Absolute EMS has grown into a full-service provider of electronics manufacturing services (EMS), supporting customers in medical, military, industrial, networking, aerospace, high-performance computing, and engineering markets. The company’s services range from prototype runs to full-volume production, all delivered from its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Santa Clara, California.
Absolute EMS operates a modern, Industry 4.0 Smart Factory equipped with advanced surface mount technology (SMT), automated inspection—including inline 3D solder paste and optical inspection—and 3D X-ray systems. The facility’s automation and inspection capabilities help ensure precision and repeatability across a wide range of assemblies, including very small passives and fine-pitch components down to imperial code 008004.
The company holds multiple quality certifications, including ISO 13485:2016 for medical device manufacturing, AS9100D for aerospace and defense, and ISO 9001:2015 for quality management systems, reflecting its focus on traceability, reliability, and controlled processes.
“Our focus has always been on doing the work right and being a dependable partner to our customers,” said Jeff Bullis, CEO and Founder of Absolute EMS. “Reaching 30 years reflects the strength of our team, the trust our customers place in us, and our ongoing effort to meet the practical needs of complex electronics manufacturing.”
Absolute EMS is also known for its vertically integrated approach, including ownership of its land and facility, which provides stability and flexibility in planning long-term production investments. The company offers a range of value-added services, such as conformal coating, supply chain support, box-build integration, and new product introduction (NPI) support from prototype to high-volume output.
As it celebrates this milestone, Absolute EMS continues to invest in technology and practices that support customers bringing high-performance products to market, including those involved in onshoring and advanced manufacturing initiatives.
