Current IssueMechatronics
Our expert contributors discuss the advent of mechatronics in PCB design, the challenges and opportunities this creates for circuit board designers, and the benefits—to the employee and the company—of becoming a mechatronics engineer.
Creating a Culture of Collaboration
PCB designers could learn quite a bit from NASA and the private companies that develop spacecraft: Every one of these vehicles is a testament to the value of collaboration among disparate stakeholders. Without a collaborative culture, the rocket might never get off the ground.
Breaking High-speed Material Constraints
Do you need specialty materials for your high-speed designs? Maybe not. Improvements in resins mean designers of high-speed boards can sometimes use traditional laminate systems. Learn more in this issue.

The world’s leading advocate for the electronics industry today released its Global Policy Framework for 2016, and announced the dates of its major U.S. public policy advocacy event of the year, coming up in April.
IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries®, headquartered in the United States, is a global industry association representing 3,700 member companies across the entire electronics supply chain. The group’s Global Policy Framework outlines its top public policy priorities to promote a strong manufacturing economy, targeting three broad areas:
- Driving technological innovation and advanced manufacturing;
- Promoting broad-based economic growth and a 21st century workforce; and
- Advocating for cost-effective, science-based regulation.
Specific issues under these headings include public-private partnerships for manufacturing innovation, tax policy, STEM education and training, and environmental health and safety policy.
IPC also is announcing the dates of its major U.S. public policy advocacy event of the year, “IMPACT Washington, D.C. 2016: Building Tomorrow’s Advanced Manufacturing Economy,” taking place on April 18-20, in Washington, D.C. IPC’s IMPACT events give C-level executives a unique opportunity to interact with senior policymakers on policy issues that affect the electronics industry. Highlights will include meetings with key leaders in Congress, the Executive Branch, and the leading presidential campaigns; briefings and discussions with industry colleagues; and an awards luncheon.
“IPC places a high priority on advocacy because government policies have a major impact on our industry,” said John Hasselmann, IPC vice president of government relations. “Government officials want to hear from our members about the real-world impact of the policies they consider.”
Registration for IMPACT 2016 runs from today through April 8. For more information, click here.
