OCM Manufacturing Program Introduces Students to Manufacturing
March 29, 2016 | OCM ManufacturingEstimated reading time: 1 minute
OCM Manufacturing of Ottawa, a leading electronics contract manufacturer in the low-to-mid-volume, high-mix space, has launched a new talent management program designed to introduce electronics engineering students to manufacturing. Students will be selected from area universities and will work with OCM’s manufacturing engineering team.
George Henning, President of OCM Manufacturing, said the intent of the new program is to encourage more electronics engineers to better understand the manufacturing process as a means of improving the manufacturability – and ultimate success – of the designs they create. The program also exposes engineering students to the careers that are available to them in electronics manufacturing. “This initiative is our way of drawing attention to the importance that we believe manufacturing has in the design process, as well as the career opportunities that are available in manufacturing. Working in product manufacturing puts individuals at the commercial edge of the industry, which is a fascinating and exciting place to work.”
The new program is up and running now, and earlier this year, OCM welcomed the program’s first student. Shenglun Jin is a third-year Electronics Engineering student from Carleton University, working at OCM for two co-op terms.
