From the CES Show Floor: Day One
January 9, 2008 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Las Vegas--The first day of CES was very crowded. In fact it was so packed with people that there were traffic jams in the halls. I met with nVidia today. They made an exciting announcement regarding hybrid SLI where new high-performance motherboards will contain a high-end embedded chip that works in tandem with an add-in graphics card in higher end computers. We discussed the issues having to do with RoHS and reliability, and decided that the subject disserved a full video interview. Expect to view that on I-Connect007 magazines in a few weeks. Coincidentally, nVidia CEO Jen-Sun Huang made the cover of Forbes magazine this week. He was obviously pleased but still his usual approachable self.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
CES is loaded with amazing but still evolutionary products. I-Connect007 was invited to the private Show Stoppers event at the Wynn Hotel. This is perhaps the best event for press at CES as there are hundreds of exhibitors that are available to the press--and only the press. A number of memory manufacturers, companies with new and unique software, robotics, services, advanced GPS, networking and so many more technologies were available to discuss their latest and greatest products.
Overall the feeling in Las Vegas is quite upbeat with little talk of depressed business conditions. The Asian influence on consumer electronics is everywhere, quite a change from the days of Comdex ten years ago.
Tomorrow we visit some of the really big boys, Microsoft and Intel followed by a surprise video interview.
