Current IssueVoices of the Industry
We take the pulse of the PCB industry by sharing insights from leading fabricators and suppliers in this month's issue. We've gathered their thoughts on the new U.S. administration, spending, the war in Ukraine, and their most pressing needs. It’s an eye-opening and enlightening look behind the curtain.
The Essential Guide to Surface Finishes
We go back to basics this month with a recount of a little history, and look forward to addressing the many challenges that high density, high frequency, adhesion, SI, and corrosion concerns for harsh environments bring to the fore. We compare and contrast surface finishes by type and application, take a hard look at the many iterations of gold plating, and address palladium as a surface finish.
It's Show Time!
In this month’s issue of PCB007 Magazine we reimagine the possibilities featuring stories all about IPC APEX EXPO 2025—covering what to look forward to, and what you don’t want to miss.

EPTE Newsletter: COVID-19 Outbreak
COVID-19 emerged in China in December 2019 and spread around the world to over 200 countries. European countries and the U.S. report a significant amount of cases over the past several weeks. The total number of cases is more than 1.2 million and counting.
I traveled back to our home office in Japan last week. The number of cases in Japan had recently jumped significantly. I have no symptoms of the COVID-19 virus but will remain in self-isolation for at least two weeks. I will refrain from the use of public transportation, including taxicabs.
Market analysts predict a slowdown in the global electronics industry due to the pandemic. Stock markets throughout the world are experiencing extreme volatility with every news report. The Dow Jones fell almost 25% YTD. It’s at its lowest level since December 2016 and is on pace for its worst month since the Great Depression.
The global electronic industry was slowing down before the Chinese New Year in January. Smartphone shipments posted a negative number compared to the same month last year, shipments for semiconductor products decreased, and shipments from the Taiwanese circuit board industry show a significant decline over the last few months. Taiwanese circuit board manufacturers can be considered the barometer for the global consumer electronics industry. A slowdown with them can mean a slowdown for markets throughout the world (production was slowing down before the COVID-19 outbreak). The pandemic can cause a deeper contraction for the industry.
The U.S. announced a historic stimulus bill in the amount of $2 trillion to respond to the pandemic, and Japan announced a stimulus package to be delivered in April. The Federal Reserve Board in the U.S. reduced interest rate to zero, and the European Central Bank joined other central banks with the announcement of programs to keep the region’s financial system functioning. We are all in this together, and this pandemic will end. Stay safe.
