Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

QCG Expands Production Facility
December 18, 2015 | QCGEstimated reading time: 1 minute
QCG has expanded its PCB assembly production facility with the addition of three brand new pick-and-place machines, an additional reflow oven, as well as additional skilled solder technicians and SMT operators.
"This is a very exciting time for us," said David Nabasny, President of QCG. "The equipment we have selected really enhances our capabilities and more than doubles our capacity. Of course, the equipment would do little without the high quality people who run it. The QCG production staff is the most talented, dedicated group of people that can find solutions for your most challenging projects."
Located in the heart of technology corridor for the greater Dallas area, QCG has provided PCB design and manufacturing services to the electronics industry for over 35 years. In addition to being ISO9001:2008, QCG is an AS9100 Rev C certified company, which is the aerospace standard for printed circuit board design and manufacturing. The company features high yield prototyping as well as production volume for aerospace, military, medical and commercial products.

Selecting a Reflow Oven, Part 1
08/10/2015 | Robert Voigt, DDM NovastarFinding out the size of oven you need is related to the number of zones you can afford. There will be tradeoffs between cost and capabilities, and more zones will always give you better flexibility and more control over your profile—but at a cost. Therefore, decision has to be qualified primarily on your anticipated throughput; that is, how many boards you process in a day or a week.
