1. Sumitomo Chemical (Major chemical company in Japan) 4/25
The company will expand its manufacturing capacity for separator sheets for lithium ion batteries by 90% in 2014.
2. Sony (Major electronics company in Japan) 4/30
The company has developed a new magnetic tape with 148Gb/in2 surface memory capacity via sputtering process. The total capacity can be more than 185TB per reel.
3. Sumitomo Corporation (Major trading company in Japan) 5/1
The company will invest US $345 million to build a new wind power plant in Texas with 200MW capacity. General Electric will supply the equipment.
4. NEC (Major electronics company in Japan) 5/8
The company has developed a new manufacturing process of non-food-based bio-cellulose plastic. It reduces manufacturing energy by 90%.
5. AIST (R&D organization in Japan) 5/8
The organization has developed a new photovoltaic cell construction with high current efficiency introducing thin organic molecular structure.
6. Pioneer (Major electronics company in Japan) 5/13
The company has co-developed a new large capacity optical disc with 256GB (one side) for next generation archives.
7. Furukawa Electric Power Systems (Material supplier in Japan) 5/13
The supplier has commercialized a new siloxane-free elastic heat sink sheet, “Efco TM Sheet V30,” with high insulation and heat resistivity.
8. Shinano Kenshi (Device manufacturer in Japan) 5/15
The manufacturer has decided to build a new automotive motor plant in Mexico for the North American market.
9. Toshiba (Major electric & electronics company in Japan) 5/15
The company will begin a new manufacturing business of chemical-free vegetables modifying a electronics plant “Toshiba Clean Farm Yokosuka.”
10. Nippon Zeon (Major specialty chemical supplier in Japan) 5/15
The supplier announced plans to build a manufacturing plant of carbon nano tube with a “Super Growth Method” developed by AIST.
11. Samsung Display (Major display manufacturer in Korea) 5/16
The manufacturer will invest another $5 billion in 2014 for the R&D and volume manufacturing of AM-OLEDs, including flexible types.
