Signal Integrity & Metallization
Signal integrity and additive manufacturing, particularly metallization, are hot topics in PCB design and fabrication. PCB layouts are carefully engineered to achieve specific electrical and power performance targets.
Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

Target Condition
Column from: Kelly Dack
Kelly Dack, CIT, CID+ understands that PCB design involves far more than moving electrons across a PCBA. Throughout his career, he has championed a holistic approach to PCB design -- one that integrates layout expertise with a deep understanding of fabrication and assembly processes to ensure designs move efficiently through manufacturing.
Kelly brings proven PCB design and manufacturing experience across aerospace, medical, telecommunications, and gaming industries. He currently serves as a Senior Applications Engineer at Pioneer Circuits Inc., where he helps customers translate innovative flex and rigid-flex concepts into production-ready products.
In addition to his role at Pioneer, Kelly actively supports the Global Electronics Association (formerly IPC) as a design instructor and IPC standards subcommittee member. He is also an industry journalist, contributing his monthly Target Condition column and appearing as on-camera talent for I-Connect007’s RealTime with… program.
Whether designing, teaching or writing, Kelly’s focus remains consistent: bringing clarity, reducing risk, and championing DFM/DFx principles to support manufacturing stakeholders, keep projects on schedule, and maintain efficient production lines.
